Hand-to-plant combat at Morses Pond

The town has invited Morses Pond abutters to a workshop on the beach at 2pm on Sept. 6 to learn hand harvesting techniques and other ways to thwart water chestnuts and other invasive species messing up the water.

Extending the Morses Pond season

Wellesley’s Recreation Department has announced it is keeping Morses Pond open 3 days longer than the originally listed end date  of August 17, 9:30 am – 7 pm.  The pond will now stay open through August 20 (August 18 – 20 from  10 am – 6 pm.).

Branch library re-openings and parties

The Hills branch re-opens Sept. 2 and the Fells branch re-opens Sept. 4. Re-opening parties will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 10:30am-noon at Fells and 2-4pm at Hills. More on the Wellesley Free Library system here.

Tracking teen drivers

Wellesley’s Anne London and friend Deborah Smith have started a program called “Steer Straight” that involves slapping bumper stickers on teen’s cars that read “How’s my TEEN driving?” and include a toll-free number for other drivers to call to report any issues. Whole Foods makes beef recall

Whole Foods is recalling all fresh ground beef sold between June 2 and Aug. 6 because some may have contained E. coli bacteria. Wellesley High building concept gets state OK

The Massachusetts School Building Authority has given its approval for Wellesley’s high school project, an all-new 280,000 square foot building that will be constructed in one phase. Plenty more steps need to be taken before the new building becomes reality, including a Special Town Meeting in October. More details here from the School Building Committee.
