No, the Wellesley Free Library will not be able to tell if you bring a book into the bathroom

The library is adopting wireless RFID chips to speed the checkout/checkin process and better keep track of its inventory, according to this Boston Globe article. No, the chips don’t have long-enough transmission ranges to enable the library to spy on you at home, and in fact are only putting the chips into their books, etc., not library cards. So that should allay privacy concerns that are always raised whenever RFID is mentioned.
