Wellesley High School Principal Andrew Keough recently alerted students that the administration had been sent Facebook photos of students in dicey situations and now is urging parents to get their kids to show them their Facebook and other social networking pages. As Keough notes, it’s pretty easy for anyone (college admission offices, employers, etc.) to get ahold of such photos (especially with Facebook’s increasingly loosey-goosey privacy).
Keough addressed such photos back in the fall of 2008 as well. That incident involved students being called into administrative offices as part of an investigation that had students crying in hallways and some parents scrambling to delete their kids’ Facebook accounts
Clueless about social networking? If you’re around on May 11 from 9-10:30am, you can swing by the Wellesley Police Department for a Social Networking 101 workshop sponsored by the Wellesley Youth Commission. Facebook, sexting and file sharing will be the main topics. Email Maura Renzella at mrenzella@wellesleyma.gov to register.
