Wellesley College saves the planet

I’ve been meaning to ask someone at Wellesley College about the big batch of solar panels overlooking the running track and playing fields on campus, but the school beat me to the punch by issuing a press release explain its latest sustainability efforts. Was kinda hoping they’d help me run faster by attaching something to myself, but no such luck…they’re for supplying energy to the school.

Wellesley College’s sustainability director is also puttering around campus in this solar-panel powered electric car, and the school is replacing the lights in its trademark lanterns with LED bulbs that use way less energy and can last more than 8 times longer than old-fashioned bulbs.

The school is also hoping that its renovation of what’s now called the Diana Chapman Walsh Alumnae Hall will result in a LEED classification for that building because of sustainability changes that were made.
