The Clarks shoe store at 67 Central Street in Wellesley Square will soon be closing.
Clarks has a long history: it started in England in 1825 and has US headquarters in Newton. Nearby Clarks locations are in Dedham and Natick.
I hate to be the bearer of continual bad news about the local business scene, but Clarks is the latest in a slew of Wellesley businesses, including Trappings and Different Drummer, closing up or moving on. The economy and high rental rates are most commonly cited as reasons for the closures.
