It’s fair season in Wellesley

The Fiske Wild West Round-up gets the fall fair season going in Wellesley this Saturday from 10am-2pm at Fiske Elementary School on Hastings St. The event is held rain or shine and includes a dunk tank, cowboy strut and more.

Also coming up:

*Fall Fling, Hardy Elementary School’s replacement for the Beach Party that got rained out at the end of the last school year. Takes place Sept. 23 from 3-6pm at Hardy School on Weston Road, and while it’s a Hardy event, the school says friends, family and neighbors are welcome. Tickets purchased in advance for the Beach Party are good at this event or for the one to be held next June (if you don’t have tickets, you can buy them at the Fall Fling). A huge obstacle course, a slide, a disc jockey, games and more will be offered.

*Bates Pumpkin Fair, Oct. 15, 1oam-2pm. This community-wide event for children and adults features games, prizes, moon bounces, raffles, haunted house, craft activities, lots of goodies, auction and pumpkins for sale.

Fiske School 1, Wellesley Little League 0

Strange little scene in Wellesley last night. Wellesley Little League’s senior baseball league was holding its tourney championship at Fiske Elementary School’s baseball field and the game was half an inning old when pop music started blaring and dozens of picnickers started descending upon school grounds. Turned out some sort of scheduling/communications SNAFU had taken place, the school did have a permit for the picnic and WLL showed good sportsmanship by suspending the game, with players quietly leaving the field in a daze.

Another baseball note: a Wellesley family will be honored at Fenway Park Friday night to recognize their late father/husband’s sacrifices as a member of the U.S. Army. College age triplets from the Sabatier family will each get scholarships.

Fiske fair recap…and the next fair

From the Fiske PTO:

On Saturday, September 20th, the Fiske Elementary School PTO held its annual fund-raiser, the Wild West Round Up. A family fair with a western flair!

To say it was a perfect day is an understatement. Families, as always, enjoyed western themed games and crafts, great grub served up at the Chuck Wagon, and a field full of games and rides. Children left with their well earned prizes, treasure jars from our famous Cowboy Strut, tasty treats from our Cookie Corral, painted faces from our Saloon Salon, and broad smiles. Seeing those happy faces is all the reward we need!

Next up among Wellesley elementary school fairs:

Upham Elementary School will hold its first ever Sports Carnival on Saturday, October 4 from 10am until 2pm at 35 Wynnewood Road. Features many sports related games, activities and events. Highlights include photos with Wally the Green Monster, a cake walk, and a raffle with a chance to win fabulous prizes such as a tickets to a Red Sox game, Wii entertainment center, and more. Plus, DJ, great food, moon bounces and other fun entertainment.

Wellesley weekend action: Fiske fair, Kids Trails Day and Jimmy Fund walk

The annual Fiske Wild West Round Up takes place at Fiske Elementary School, 45 Hastings Street, Wellesley, 10 am – 2 pm, rain or shine. Features games of chance and skill for all ages, arts & crafts, face painting, fun prizes, and fabulous food. Plus, pony rides, a petting zoo, moon bounces, and a giant slide. It’s a big fundraiser for the school.

Join the Wellesley Trails Committee for Sunday’s Kids Trails Day from 1:30-3pm. Learn about nature and even how to build a Native American shelter. The activities are free and refeshments will be served. Meet at MassBay Community College parking lot on Oakland St.

Also on Sunday, be on the alert and show your support as Jimmy Fund Walk participants head through town along the Boston Marathon course on Rte. 16/Rte 135.
