A heartwarming Wellesley holiday tale

A scene we came across  last week at the Thunder sporting goods store. A store employee asked if anyone might have lost a piece of jewelry — a heart pendant covered in diamonds. A woman whose heart palpitations could be heard throughout the store — and probably across Wellesley Square — quickly claimed the piece, [...]

UPDATED: Hazel & Grace & Dtox

Let’s see if we’ve got this straight. Women’s clothing boutique Hazel & Grace cleared out of the challenging 254 Washington St. location in Wellesley last spring to make way for detoxification treatment center Dtox International. Hazel & Grace took its business to Newton and had an online store. Hazel & Grace  resurfaced at 9 Crest Rd. Mall in [...]

Wellesley, just like Natick

Wellesley’s starting to look a lot like Natick. We’ll not only next week match the Natick Collection’s California Pizza Kitchen (there will even be a ceremonial “first pizza” cutting on Monday), but the Townsman reports that Panera Bread, which already has locations in Natick and Framingham, could be on its way to Wellesley’s Linden Square. [...]

Wellesley's top 10 stories of the year

10. Beach Boys kickin’ it old school in Wellesley: If they’re still allowed to play concerts, I’m allowed to use the phrase kickin’ it old school. An anonymous donor sprang for the free show in May. Town officials pulled out all the stops on the security and transportation front. A Beatles knockoff band also came [...]

Kaps feeling economic woes

Don’t mean to give the Kaps menswear stores a free plug, but they’re sounding pretty desperate. From the looks of the big ads in their windows on Central St. in Wellesley and in the newspaper you could almost mistake the retailer for one of those “Going Out of Business!” Oriental rug joints. A big ad [...]

Hair apparent?

Hair West’s old location at 558 Washington St. now features brown paper-insulated windows but it looks like a new tenant might be prepping for action. Panoply Day Spa last week was scheduled to make its case before town officials for an awning at that location. Meanwhile, a few storefronts up the block in the space formerly [...]

How ironic

Was thinking of stopping by Watches, Etc. at 48 Washington St. in Wellesley today to get a watch fixed. Checked out the store’s website. Store hours aren’t listed. Share/Bookmark

Roche Bros.: If we can't sell booze, neither can you

The Wellesley-based grocery chain is in the middle of a dispute over whether a new Wegmans supermarket in Westwood should be allowed a liquor license. Roche Bros. and some lawmakers have been fighting the move, arguing it would give Wegmans an unfair competitive advantage. Roche Bros. actually has 3 liquor licenses (not in Wellesley or [...]

Playing her cards right in Wellesley

One vendor that caught our eyes at last weekend’s Massachusetts Marketplace Festival at Elm Bank Reservation was Stayman Cards, a Wellesley business that makes homemade greeting cards like the one shown here. Suzy Stayman has been selling the cards for 3 years, noting that she has “always been into colors and sending out beautiful things [...]

Jewelry store shifting to Wellesley Square

Levon & Company, a jewelry store that’s been at 259 Washington St. for 5 years, is moving to a smaller space at 83 Central St. much closer to a handful of other jewelry stores. Owner Levon Artinian tells the Townsman his shop differentiates itself by renewing stones, among other things. By the way, you can [...]
