The warrant for the meeting, which starts April 5 at Wellesley Middle School’s auditorium, is now available here at the town website. Among other things up for vote will be whether to allow RDF land to be leased for such purposes as hosting cellular phone towers (all the better to ensure good reception for those wheelers and dealers looking to swoop in on the latest reusables area treasures). Here’s a quick rundown of other agenda items:

* Town Meeting will vote on a series of capital projects that include adding on to Wellesley Middle School to accommodate rising enrollment, fixing flooring at the Central St. fire department, constructing or refurbishing Municipal Light Plant Administration and DPW buildings, and fixing sewer lines.

* Possible changes to the Wellesley Police Department’s contract, mainly including Civil Service exam restrictions in hiring.

* Possible zoning changes, including amendment of the Large House Review rules that include new ways of measuring attics and basements.

* Voting on a town-wide sustainable energy plan

A special Town Meeting on April 12 will deal with the town’s proposed purchase of land at 494 Washington St. that would be used to support parking at the planned new senior center. If the senior center doesn’t wind up going there, the land could be used for another purpose, like public space.

The Quinobequin Quilters, a not-for-profit group that formed in 1983 and meets regularly in Wellesley, will be holding its biennial Quilt Show in Needham at the Masonic Hall at 1101 Highland Ave. on March 26 (10am-8pm) and 27 (10am-4pm).

More than 100 quilts made by 50 members from Wellesley and surrounding towns will be on display, with styles ranging from traditional patchwork to more contemporary fabric art.

Visitors will be invited to vote for their favorites and kids can play a scavenger hunt, looking for shapes and symbols on the quilts. Vendors will be present for those who might want to start their own projects.

Call Jane Evans at 781-444-9575 or visit the club’s website for more info.

Shown: Gloria Johnston, Lauren Johnston, Julie Wolkoff (current QQ President), Becky Reed, Haiyan Newton, Teresa Matias, Adele Beggs, and Martha Cunningham

Separately, Wellesley Booksmith will be hosting its second Knit-a-Thon on March 27, ” when customers can knit amongst the books while listening to and enjoying the company of fellow fiber artists.” Kristin Nicholas (COLOR BY KRISTIN), Gail Callahan (HAND DYEING YARN AND FLEECE), Melissa Morgan Oakes (2-AT-A-TIME SOCKS), Wren Ross (CHANGING PATTERNS) and Jill Stover (co-owner of Yarns in the Farms) will be among those on hand to share their secrets.

The Knit-a-Thon presentations and consultations are free (with the exception of a workshop) and open to the public, but each event will be ticketed because capacity is limited. Drop-ins are welcome, but those with tickets are admitted first. A detailed schedule will be posted on www.wellesleybooksmith.com shortly. Call 781 431-1160 or email events@wellesleybooksmith.com to RSVP.

The Booksmith will also be running a charitable book fair all that day, with a percentage of sales donated to Women of Means (founded by Wellesley resident Roseanna Means).

Boston Herald columnist/ranter Howie Carr’s wife Kathy stole the spotlight this week with a controversial column of her own in the Wellesley Townsman about teenage drinking in town and the responsibility of parents to reign them in. Carr even turned photojournalist, sending along a picture of empty beer cans and alcohol bottles strewn along Benvenue St. She wrote that her 2 older daughters asked her not to write the piece.

Townsman readers flooded the paper’s website with negative reaction to the column and the paper pulled them down. Townsman editor Cathy Brauner told the Globe that readers should instead express their thoughts the old fashioned way and mail or drop off letters to the Townsman.
