Wellesley police investigate ugly car accidents

Wellesley Police and other emergency responders worked on a couple of serious car accidents over the weekend, both of which required use of the Jaws of Life. One took place at Wellesley Ave., near Hunnewell St., and the other on Rte. 9 near Audubon Rd. and Kingsbury St. turnaround. Wellesley police chief wraps up tenure as head of state police chiefs group

Wellesley Police Chief Terry Cunningham is giving way to the first woman to head the Massachuseets Chiefs of Police Association, but first penned this farewell newsletter that reads in part:

I believe we have been doing good work on Beacon Hill and I want to see through a few more of our initiatives. I still believe we can design and fund a professional training system without further burdening taxpayers. And I believe we may be close to resolving the so-called LeBlanc issues that have freed so many drunk drivers in the twenty years since the SJC decision in that case. Beyond Beacon Hill I hope the state will work to repair the mess involving the drug labs that was caused by the Melendez-Diaz case. And I’d love to see the commonwealth’s various police groups come together; to think less about their differences and more about the enormous feats we could accomplish if we worked more closely. That may be a lofty goal, but nothing truly great ever came from aiming low.

Accident on Rte. 9 in Wellesley

Channel 7 has video of the aftermath of an early Sunday a.m. accident on Rte. 9 (and someone’s front lawn) caused by what police said was a speeding driver from Natick.

Cops: Baseball bat, pellet gun a bad combo

The MetroWest Daily News reports that a Wellesley man has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (actually two, a baseball bat and a pellet gun) after he allegedly showed up at the Framingham house of someone he was arguing with. That someone wasn’t there, but police got a call and arrested the Wellesley man.
