Our roundup of the latest Wellesley, MA business news:

MiniLuxe makeover

The plastic sheets covering the MiniLuxe nails/waxing/beauty salon in Wellesley Square triggered messages to us that another empty storefront had appeared in town. And while that might look to be true, MiniLuxe tells us that they’re actually just undergoing renovations at 96 Central St. The business plans to reopen on May 5, and they’re still accepting appointments.

If possible, Wellesley Square has become more glamorous: MiniLuxe opens

June 15, 2012 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

MiniLuxe Wellesley opensThe MiniLuxe salon is now open for business at 96 Central St., offering manicures, pedicures, waxing and other services designed to make the beautiful women and men of Wellesley beyond even more beautiful than they already are.

The Wellesley salon is the sixth MiniLuxe franchise and is led by Lou Belmonte. It features a “brow bar” and MiniLuxe’s exclusive nail color collection. And if unlike me you don’t mix your own lemongrass and algae concoctions, then MiniLuxe is definitely the place for you. “Other MiniLuxe Wellesley services include a seasonal lemongrass warm oil manicure, a gentleman’s manicure and/or pedicure, and an amazing upgraded pedicure using a cooling, anti-inflammatory mask infused with algae extract and spearmint oil,” according to the company’s press release.

MiniLuxe Wellesley hours are Monday-Wednesday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday 8 a.m. – 9 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sundays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  To schedule an appointment, call 781-235-7575.

Parties and private events are welcome, and in fact the Wellesley Mothers Forum just had one there, as you can see in the photo of sparkly moms above.

Newest signs of Wellesley business life: Justine’s Table, Papyrus, MiniLuxe

March 20, 2012 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

A few Wellesley businesses are prepping to open, with temporary or permanent signs going up recently.

Justine's Table WellesleyJustine’s Table will be a new restaurant at 978 Worcester Rd. (Rte. 9 east near Dunkin’ Donuts). It’s taken a couple of years for the restaurant, which is now has different owners from those who originally proposed the eatery, but a temporary sign on the front indicates it’s probably getting close. The owners of the 85-seat restaurant, which has been controversial because of parking concerns, recently were approved for a common victualler’s license by the Board of Selectmen.

Papyrus WellesleyIn Wellesley Square, the Papyrus stationary and gifts store has a nice new sign up and a delivery truck driver was unloading bunches of boxes at the 61A Central St. location  this morning. Hudson interior design used to be in that space.

Mini Luxe WellesleySeparately, across the street and down a ways west at 98 Central St., the MiniLuxe nails/waxing/beauty spa is slated to open imminently.

On November 20, 2018 at 8:57 a.m. Officer J. Popovski was dispatched to Forest Street and Laurel Ave for a report of a Wellesley Park and Tree employee who had been removing tree limbs in a bucket truck that received an electrical shock.  The male party was conscious and alert and was able to move the bucket back to the ground.  He was evaluated by Cataldo paramedics and transported to the hospital for evaluation.  The Occupational Safety and Health Inspectors Office will investigate the incident.

On November 20, 2018 at 5:03 p.m. Officer Keenan spoke with the resident on Paine Street about possible fraud. The report is incomplete at this time and no further information is available.

On November 21, 2018 at 11:49 p.m. Officer Kane was dispatched to Whiting Road for a report of damage to the side window of a vehicle.  The reporting party stated the damage occurred between 1:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. and the car alarm did not sound overnight.  There are no suspects and it did not appear anything was taken from the vehicle.

On November 21, 2018 at 12:47 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Hunnewell Street and Oakland Street for a male party standing outside of a white Lexus with a knife.  It was reported that the male then got back into his vehicle and began traveling towards Oakland Street.  A vehicle registration was provided which came back to a close by residence.  Officers responded and spoke with the operator of the motor vehicle who stated he had not stopped at that intersection and did not have a knife.  There was no knife located and officers were unable to get back in touch with the reporting party for further information about the incident.

On November 21, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Officer Dixon spoke with a male reporting party at the police station regarding a bicycle that was stolen from the Wellesley Hills Train Station.  He stated he had locked the bicycle on the bike rack at 11:25 a.m. and it was no longer there at 6:10 p.m.  The bike lock had been broken and left behind. The bike was described as a 2017 Trek Marlin 5 Mountain Bike valued at $500.  There are no suspects.

This is not the first time that this business has been broken into.

An even Luxer Wellesley on the way?

September 13, 2015 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Wellesley has the Gretta Luxe women’s clothing and accessories store, MiniLuxe salon and Lux Bond & Green jewelers. It used to have Lux Nails & Spa and even Electrolux vacuum cleaners businesses, and coming soon will be the luxury condos of Belclare.

But maybe there’s room for even more luxy business: We spotted a Craigslist ad for LuxeBar, a Peabody beauty salon (hair, nails, face, etc.) that’s threatening to come “to your neighborhood,” with hiring specified for Wellesley and Chestnut Hill. We’ve seen enough Craigslist ads to know that just because a location is mentioned in an ad doesn’t make it so.

A Luxebar spokesperson played coy when we asked: “Right now we can’t comment on any new locations, but as soon as we can I will be in touch.”

Wellesley: The luxest place on earth

March 29, 2011 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Update: Looks like 98 Central St., where Neena’s is vacating, will be MiniLuxe’s home in Wellesley.

We hear that MiniLuxe, a nail and beauty lounge with locations in Boston, Newton and Lexington, may be on the prowl for a spot in Wellesley. (A spokeswoman says “we do not have a set Wellesley location, but stay tuned.”)

This would certainly make Wellesley the luxest place ever, considering we already have the new Lux Nails & Spa and the longstanding Gretta Luxe in Wellesley Square, not to mention jeweler Lux Bond & Green in Wellesley Square as well.

Wellesley Business Buzz: Heroes Fitness expanding into Central Street storefront; Jejes Coffeehouse getting closer

August 25, 2022 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Our round-up of the latest Wellesley, Mass., business news:

Heroes Fitness expanding into Central Street storefront

Heroes Fitness, Wellesley SquareConnor Griffin, founder and personal trainer at Heroes Fitness in Wellesley Square, says the business is expanding beyond its space in the lower section of 98 Central St., to the top floor, with front access in between Lockheart Restaurant and MiniLuxe (formerly home to Dunkin’ Donuts).

“So we will have 2 full floors of gyms,” Griffin says. “Now with the expansion we will have a full class schedule and open gym membership as well as new trainers for personal training. We plan to do a grand opening September 12/13.”

Jejes Coffeehouse getting closer

When Jejes Coffeehouse opens its doors at 259 Washington St., hopefully by the end of next month, it will be celebrating more than its arrival in Wellesley.

The small coffeehouse’s sister company, Jejes Coffee Roasters in Sharon, just earned two bronze medals at Golden Bean, which bills itself as the world’s largest coffee roasting competition.

Jejes Coffeehouse manager Duse Lee says “We submitted for four categories (espresso, milk, filter, and alternative milk) from three roasts: Jeju, Dokdo, and Dohl. Dohl and Dokdo were awarded bronze in the espresso and milk categories, which are the backbone of any coffee shop.”

Jejes’ owner Sunny Lee began roasting coffee in South Korea about 12 years ago, and upon coming to the United States roasted for family and friends before launching the business in 2020.

In researching the Wellesley location, Lee says the Jejes team tried a couple of coffee shops in Wellesley and concluded its offerings wee significantly different. “We realized that Wellesley needs a coffee shop that offers specialty coffee,” Lee said.

While you’ve got a bit longer to wait until Jejes opens here, you can order its products online.

In addition to coffee, Jejes will sell baked goods, including cookies, scones, and muffins, as well as various cold and hot drinks. The business will mainly focus on take-out given its small space, and will operate weekdays from 8am-1pm.

“When we’re ready, we will add more dessert options that go well with coffee and are not too sweet so that people can know the real taste of coffee,” Lee says.

Lockheart owner’s plan for Allston pub shot down

The owner of the new Lockheart restaurant in Wellesley had to do some convincing to get the Select Board’s approval for an alcohol license late last year. But he didn’t have as much luck with the Boston Licensing Board in his bid to buy and reopen the White Horse Tavern in Allston, according to a report by Universal Hub.

Charles River Regional Chamber holds meet & greet

Dozens of Charles River Regional Chamber members and guests connected in the Linden Square courtyard on Thursday morning for, we dare say, a real live networking event.

It was nice to meet some of our readers who we’ve previously known only through email or comments left on our sites, as well as others curious about our Swellesley Report and Natick Report sites.

Banking, fitness, publishing, and home healthcare were among the fields represented by those we met at the event. Wife-and-husband teams, like our own, also seemed to be in vogue.

Charles River Chamber, Wellesley
The Linden Square Courtyard was the setting for a Charles River Regional Chamber event. Members hobnobbed and talked up their various businesses and non-profits.
